In an article for 'The Nation', Alexander Cockburn quoted Balenda Ganem, the mother of Davidian survivor David Thibodeau: 'I'd been in touch with Rick Ross, who was acting as an independent cult 'deprogrammer' and informant to the ATF and FBI. When I got to know him in Waco, I understood that he was instigating the most negative aspect of the situation because he wished violence toward David Koresh. He never said he wanted him to be helped out. He wanted him wiped out.'

Criminal Record

A convicted criminal responsible for causing violence and has committed violent acts himself."

Convicted of one felony and a misdemeanor. Misdemeanor conviction was for "Conspiracy" to commit a crime. This involved an attempted burglary of a vacant model home.

Felony conviction was for "Conspiracy to Commit Grand Theft." This concerned the embezzlement of property from a jewelry company.

Lawsuits

In a civil matter [filed] on May 23, 1979...The Court ruled against Ross and ordered him to pay...$8,464.65.

Also in 1979, another lawsuit was filed against Ross...for failure to repay a loan to his own aunt for $4,000.00

Bankrupt

Instead of honoring the court judgments...Ross filed for bankruptcy. This even included disposing of a $17,500.00 debt to his own elderly mother.

Psychiatric History

Rick Ross has an extensive psychiatric history and use of psychiatric drugs.

He has undergone many years of psychiatric therapy starting at age 10.

Additionally, as a condition of one of his probations he was assigned to a State employed psychiatrist.

*The American Institute of Deprogrammers in consultation with the Freedom of the Mind Institute conducted an impartial study and determined that Ross only successfully deprogrammed** 32.13 % of his "targets" *** whereas Hassan successfully deprogrammed 47.45%

**"Successfully deprogrammed" is defined as a person who denounces the cult he was formerly associated in the presence of the deprogrammer and stays away from any contact with the cult for 21 days from the date that the deprogramming is complete and the final bill to the deprogrammer is paid, whichever comes first.

***"Target" is defined as any person who is the subject of a paid deprogramming effort. A target however cannot pay for his own deprogramming. The payment for a target's deprogramming must come from an interested party, usually but not limited to a family member. Ross has lobbied that the government and insurance companies have a legitimate interest in designating targets for deprogramming.
